I’ll be at Rio de Janeiro this weekend, I’m going tomorrow -with my sweetie- and will take an Aged Rum(Bacardi Black) with me.
For this reason I was researching some cool cocktails to try there:
OLD CUBAN COCKTAIL (Audrey Saunders):
- 1 1/2oz rum
- 3/4oz lime juice
- 1oz simple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 6 mint leaves
- 2oz Champagne
Garnish: Sugar-coated vanilla bean
Shaked, strained to cocktail glass, top with Champagne
PRO TIP: Muddle lime and leave it in the shaker.
“To make a sugar-coated vanilla bean, slice a whole bean in half down it’s center and scrape out the insides (and save for cooking with!), then slice both halfs across the middle. Now put these (and several more) into a jar filled with sugar. Allow to sit for a week or more. You’ll end up with not only some great garnishes for this drink, but vanilla flavored sugar for various uses as well.” -A.S.
I’m also willing to try a Luxury Mojito, aged rum and topped with Champagne.
And why not drink this Breakfast Collins?
- 1 heaping tsp. of jam
- 2 oz of Mount Gay Eclipse Rum
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
- dash Angostura Bitters
Garnish: lemon wheel
Shaked, double strained into a ice filled collins glass and topped with soda!
