This weekend I finally had fresh oranges to make the Jolly Roger, from Robert Hess, which I was into doing since I infused my own Falernum.

Jolly Roger

  • 2oz Bacardi Black
  • 1oz Orange juice
  • ¼oz Falernum
  • 2ds Angostura Bitters

Shake, strain into ice filled old-fashioned glass. Garnish with an orange zest.

If you have a really bold aged rum you may want to break it with some unaged.

My falernum is very light in ginger and lime, so adjust yours to give it a citrus kick. Let’s say, Pimento Dram, lime zest and ginger muddled.

That was good and refreshing although I missed some ginger zing.
